More Than Meets The Eye (And Ear)

Did you know that there is more than one Transformers cartoon? You did? Well, then, you're a big dork. I had no idea. I do, however, own all the Jem DVDs. And the board game.

Synergy, show me the Transformers E-Card!

EnGORGE Yo'Self

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

My 4th of July was restored as Takeshu Kobayashi fought through the pain of "jawthritis" and indeed appeared at Coney Island's beloved hot-dog eating competition yesterday and he came to play! Breaking the world record of 59 1/2 hot dogs recently set by American competitive eater Joey Chestnutt, Kobayashi worked through the pain to eat 63 'dogs. Well...almost. At the end of the competition, with Chestnutt seemingly only half a hot-dog ahead of the Japanese wonder, Kobayashi ralphed the afternoon's eatings into his clasped hands, only to shove it back in and eaten once again! GROSS! While visions of Lard Ass from "Stand By Me" danced in my head, Joey Chestnutt brought the mustard belt home with an earth-shattering 66 hot dogs eaten in a 12 minute period of time.

While we're speaking about gorging one-self, check out Pearl Jam's new release, Live at The Gorge. It's a gut-busting 7 CD set taped at 2 book-ended shows from last year's tour. Narsty!

Joe Rogan Live!

Image Entertainment released Joe Rogan Live on DVD on June 5th, 2007. Regardless of Joe Rogan's success on television with the Ultimate Fighting Championship or hosting Fear Factor or co-starring in NewsRadio, his true love is stand-up comedy. With more than 15 years as a touring comedian, Rogan has honed an opinionated comedic style that challenges the status quo. From his unorthodox ideas for peace in the Middle East to debunking the myth of Noah's Ark and appreciating the vastness of space - all of the energy of a live Joe Rogan performance is captured on Joe Rogan: Live!

Check out a sample of the hilarity here.

I Can't Think of Anything Witty to Title This Erasure Post

Yeah, I'm having a brain fart kind of day. I'm ready for my vacation now. Ha, while I type this, "Vacation" by the Go-Go's has just come on the radio. Go figure. Yeah, I listen to the radio, wanna fight?

Anywho, let's get back to the real purpose of this time-wasting exercise. Erasure is going on tour. Wa-hoo! I've never actually seen Erasure, though I think it's kind of fun that they'll be playing McCarren Pool in BK, so I might have to check them out. I had planned to see them a few years back at Irving Plaza on their Nightbird tour, but I dropped the ball. Yeah, why do you care about that. I don't know, I certainly wouldn't if I was some random person reading this blog.

Let's focus here, folks. Who, what, when, where, and why.

WHO: Erasure. Haven't you been reading?

WHAT: They're on tour this summer.

WHEN: Throughout July and August, see below.

WHERE: All over the U.S., see below.

WHY: To make money? To shag groupies? To elevate their egos? To promote their new record? I dunno, why does anyone go on tour?

Light at the End of the World Tour Dates:

Fri 7/6 Tampa, FL Carol Morsani Hall @ TBPAC
Sat 7/7 Miami, FL James L. Knight Center
Sun 7/8 Orlando, FL Hard Rock Live!
Fri 7/13 San Juan, Puerto Rico Coliseo Roberto Clemente
Sat 7/14 Altos de Chavon, Dominican Republic The Amph @ Altos de Chavon
Mon 7/16 Mexico City, Mexico Metropolitan Theater
Thu 7/19 Monterrey, Mexico Arena Monterrey
Sat 7/21 Anaheim, CA Grove of Anaheim
Tue 7/24 Seattle, WA Moore Theatre
Fri 7/27 Minneapolis, MN First Avenue
Sat 7/28 Milwaukee, WI Pabst Theater
Sun 7/29 Kansas City, MO Uptown Theater
Tue 7/31 Detroit, MI Music Hall
Wed 8/1 Cleveland, OH House of Blues
Fri 8/3 Brooklyn, NY McCarren Park Pool

I'm gonna go sleep until this fog lifts. In the meantime, check out their video for their latest single, "Sunday Girl".

Catch a Wave on July 4 Despite the Weatherman's Blues

Forecasts for this year's national b-day call for rain. Bummer. Nothing like a good mid-week, hump-day vakay than sitting in your house watching the rain fall like God's special tears when all you wanna do is lounge on the white (yeah right!) sands of those beaches surrounding NYC. Coney Island's hot-dog face-stuffing contest won't even be the same ever since Kobayashi declared he had to bow out due to arthritis of the jaw.

So what can I do to cure my impending case of the gloomies? Aside from imbuing lots and lots of ecstacy-laced sangria, I will also pop in the new Beach Boys compilation, The Warmth of The Sun.

So why this comp above all the umpteen others, you ask?

Well, this one includes stuff you wouldn't normally find (along with stuff you normally would, like "Catch a Wave" and "409"). Culled from their '70s albums when everyone was irrationally consumed with what a basket-case Brian Wilson had become, songs like "Forever" (I always thought this was written for John Stamos on Full House, d'oh)and "Cool, Cool Water" showcase the beautiful maturity the Beach Boys had sustained (albeit, almost universally ignored).

Check out another gem here with "Sail On, Sailor".
