Kenny Wayne is My Shepherd (Oh, the Blasphemy!)

Kenny Wayne Shepherd has confirmed the “Blues from the Backroads” national tour dates with legendary blues veterans (including Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Bryan Lee and Buddy Flett) to support the Ten Days Out CD/DVD!! I have copies of the CD/DVD for review as well as the “Tina Marie” video stream, “The Thrill Is Gone” audio stream featuring B.B. King, buddy icons, and other assets below.
Renowned blues and rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd—along with a film crew, a portable recording studio and producer Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads)—embarked on a ten-day journey into the heart of the American South, documenting and recording an impressive lineup of blues veterans. Warner Bros./Reprise Records releases the resulting documentary and accompanying live CD Ten Days Out (Blues From The Backroads) to acclaim. Billboard Magazine writes, “Kenny Wayne Shepherd passed for an old blues soul when he was just 18 and released his first album… So it shouldn't be surprising that, at 29, he can hang convincingly with some real old blues souls…” Beginning in March, Shepherd will embark on a national tour along with several of the legendary blues musicians featured in the documentary including Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Bryan Lee and Buddy Flett. The tour will kick off March 13 in Austin and feature performances in New Orleans, Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago.
Major PBS markets around the country are airing Ten Days Out (Blues from the Backroads) throughout the winter and spring of 2007 including confirmed dates in Nashville, Louisiana, Denver, Milwaukee, Mississippi and Georgia. Please check local listings for specific times.

Finessed by Finesse

Image Entertainment will release Finesse Mitchell: Live on DVD & CD nationwide, February 13th 2007.

Atlanta-born SNL cast member Finesse Mitchell hooks you first with his Southern charm before he goes in for the comedic kill. In this live performance, Mitchell slays his audience with his hilarious takes on dating, being raised by a teen mom, movie theater etiquette and meeting Saturday Night Live celebrity guests Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston and Prince during his first year as an official cast member on the show. Endearingly candid, wildly funny and often downright raunchy, Mitchell is a hot young comic not to be missed!

Leonard Cohen and Anjani: Together at Last!

The liturgy of timeless songs to be found on Cohen’s first three albums has mystified poets and professors for ages. And so the stage is set to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Cohen’s debut album. For the first time in the digital era, expanded editions of Songs Of Leonard Cohen, Songs From A Room, and Songs Of Love And Hate will arrive in stores April 24th on Columbia/Legacy, a division of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. Each will contain previously unreleased bonus material of monumental historical importance to Cohen aficionados, as well as separate newly commissioned liner notes essays written by Rolling Stone contributing editor (and Cohen devotee) Anthony DeCurtis. Each will be specially packaged in a hardcover digipak configuration, similar to Legacy’s June Carter Cash retrospective of last year, Keep On the Sunny Side.
In conjunction with these, Anjani’s Blue Alert will be issued in a special two-disc digipak. The CD features ten tracks while the bonus DVD will contain two music video clips (“The Mist” and “Thanks For the Dance”) and behind-the-scenes interviews and recording studio footage. Of the many protégés and disciples who have spread their wings and found a kindred spirit in Leonard Cohen, none is more intriguing than singer-songwriter Anjani Thomas. Now signed to Columbia alongside Cohen, Anjani is set to release Blue Alert. The album’s ten songs were written by Cohen and Anjani, she arranged the music and accompanied herself on piano, and the album was produced by Cohen.

Yacht Rock is Just Alright With Me

For over three decades millions of fans have been “Listening to the Music” of the Doobie Brothers, one of the most enduringly popular American bands in rock n’ roll history. The Doobies got their start in the San Francisco Bay-area scene of the late 1960’s, graduating from playing local clubs, biker hangouts and hippie joints to concert stages worldwide. Their free-wheeling, melodic, harmony-heavy, guitar-driven music – fusing jazz, R&B and more into an indelible rock-pop signature unleashing a string of hits including 16 Top 40 singles and 11 multi-platinum albums (Rhino’s Greatest Hits is over 10x platinum). Through personnel changes and stylistic shifts, from their earliest Tom Johnson-era rock classics to their later, pop influenced Michael McDonald-influenced smashes, The Doobie Brothers’ greatest tracks from ’71-’00 are chronicled definitively on this must-have 2-CD collection. The collection will be available February 13 at all regular retail outlets and at http://www.rhino.com.
