The Game of Pop

Singer–songwriter Josh Kelley is eager to announce the October 10th release of his third album, “Just Say the Word.” Entirely written, produced and performed by Kelley, “Just Say the Word” demonstrates an eclectic range of the artist’s recent musical and personal evolution: “I often heard people say that sometimes you just wake up in life and realize that you want to be better – well, that’s what happened to me about one year ago. I became a better guitar player, drummer, piano player, bass player, singer and songwriter. I found a new love in my life and an extra spark to my passion for music. "Just Say the Word" is a direct reflection of my growth. I had a vision for this record and finally there was only one cook in the kitchen.”

Kelley has independently partnered with manager Debbie Wilson of Wilspro Management to market and distribute the new material in a unique way. On June 6th, the album made a very successful pre-release launch on iTunes that lifted Kelley to the #1 position among all iTunes folk artists. On June 13th, “Just Say the Word” boasted a #27 position on iTunes Top Albums. In addition, a series of headlining club dates kicked off on May 28th in Las Vegas at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino and Kelley will continue to tour throughout 2006 in support of the album. “This is my rebirth,” Kelley noted, “I am ready to explore new and different ways of getting my music out there and go to the next level.”

Kelley broke through in 2001 on Hollywood Records with “For The Ride Home,” an album that showcased his no-nonsense expressiveness and disarmingly genuine delivery. These qualities were exemplified in the top five smash "Amazing," and follow-up top ten hit "Everybody Wants You." In early 2004, he left Oxford, Miss. for Los Angeles where he interacted with fellow songwriters and players, further refining his skills while determining where he wanted to take his music next. It all culminated with the sessions for his second Hollywood Records album, “Almost Honest.”

Me Radio Pretty One Day

Each week, some 1.7 million listeners tune-in to This American Life, an insightful, innovative radio program that broadcasts touching true-life stories that unfold like audio movies to listeners on over 500 public radio stations nationally. This fall, listeners can own a selection of the greatest stories from the show on a two-CD compilation, This American Life: Stories Of Hope & Fear, available November 7th from Shout! Factory. Host Ira Glass and the staff of This American Life selected some of their favorite segments from the Peabody® Award-winning series, organized along the title theme which, Glass admits, “Not only summarizes the theme of nearly every story on our program, but all human drama and literature besides.” Featuring segments by bestselling writer and humorist David Sedaris (Naked), Comedy Central’s “Daily Show” correspondent John Hodgman, and many others, this eclectic anthology addresses topics ranging from gender reassignment to karaoke comedy, with over two hours of alternately hilarious and heart-breaking spoken performances set against the music of Thurston Moore, Blonde Redhead, RZA, Calexico, Philip Glass, Morcheeba, Mogwai, Tom Zé, Tortoise, Carly Simon and others. The third installment in the This American Life CD series, the two-disc This American Life: Stories Of Hope & Fear set, includes 11 complete stories from the Chicago Public Radio series, with an album insert featuring original artwork by Divya Srinivasan (Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois) and liner notes by Ira Glass, for the suggested list price of $19.98.

You Know What They Say About Guys With Little Feat...

...Little shoes?

Born in the heart of Hollywood, Little Feat wrote iconoclastic songs that combined rollicking rhythms and tight phrasing with cinematic lyrics about pill-popping truck drivers and burnouts sleeping in broken-down cars dreaming of hamburgers. Rhino Records salutes the band that's always "Willin'" with the group's first-ever, career-spanning single-disc compilation. The Best of Little Feat will be available September 26.

The Best of Little Feat contains 17 re-mastered versions of classic tracks released between 1971 and 1998 and follows the band's evolution from the Lowell George-led original to the modern-day incarnation that reunited in 1987 - almost a decade after George's untimely death in 1979.

Brass in Eardrums

Way Better Than a Dirt Sandwich!

Seemingly too traditional for Nashville's music establishment at the time, Dwight Yoakam moved to Los Angeles in 1977, whereby the early 80s his captivating performances at the Palomino Club, Club Lingerie, Hong Kong Cafe and other Hollywood venues earned him and his band-the Babylonian Cowboys-a loyal following among California's burgeoning cowpunk scene. Rhino celebrates the 20th anniversary of Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc., with a remastered version of his 1986 debut expanded with demos for the album recorded five years earlier. The double-disc set also features a live recording of Yoakam playing the Roxy shortly after the album's release and includes several unreleased live cuts. The deluxe edition of Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc. will be available October 17 from regular retail outlets and at www.rhino.com.

A Guide to Recognizing Your Dito Montiel

Dito Montiel, lead singer of the ’90s band Gutterboy, returns October 10 with his self-titled solo debut. The 15-track release follows Montiel’s success with A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, a fictionalized account of his life that he made into a book in 2003 and an award-winning independent film currently in theaters. The album will be available through all digital retailers. The album is a companion to A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints as the semi-autobiographical subject matter of the songs take place after the time period in which the film was set.

Montiel gained notoriety in 1989 when Geffen Records signed Gutterboy to a $1 million record deal – an unheard of sum at the time. The band was dropped after its debut and was dubbed one of the most ‘successful’ unsuccessful bands in rock history. Prior to Gutterboy, as a kid, Montiel was in the hardcore band Major Conflict.

Montiel returned to the spotlight in 2003 in a big way with A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, a fictional take on his life growing up in Astoria, Queens in the early ’80s during the rise of hardcore. After adapting his best-selling book into a screenplay, Montiel made his directorial debut this year with the film version of A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints, a gritty drama that ranks as one of the more indelible accounts of New York City street life in years.

What It Was

Right on. Right on. Nothing puts a dip in your hip and a glide in your stride quite like a gritty funk groove that hits the beat hard on the one. The polyrhythmic kissing cousin of classic soul and R&B, funk’s sinuous slap-bass lines and booming kick drums from its heyday in the late ’60s through the late ’70s went on to inspire a generation of hip-hop heads. Rhino rocks funk’s foundation with a four-disc collection of rump-shaking beats and hard-to-find pimpalicious jams that don’t fake the funk. What It Is! Funky Soul and Rare Grooves (1967-1977) will be available October 3rd.

What It Is! celebrates some of the genre’s biggest names with the late Wilson Pickett’s “Engine Number 9;” “I’m Just Like You,” a song recorded by Sly Stone under the pseudonym 6ix, and “Stanga” a tune he wrote and produced for Little Sister (which included Vaetta Stewart, Sly’s little sister); and Earth Wind & Fire’s “Bad Tune” from the acclaimed group’s debut. The boxed set also includes tracks by Little Richard, Allen Toussaint, The Commodores, Curtis Mayfield, Labelle, P-Funk guitar virtuoso Eddie Hazel, and The Meters, who can be heard with Cyril Neville on the classic “Gossip,” performing undercover as The Rhine Oaks on “Tampin’” and under their own moniker for “Chug Chug Chug-A-Lug (Push And Shove) Part 2.”

I Admit It, I'm a Starf*cker (Jus' Like My Daddy)

At the time of her debut in 1992, Tori Amos' captivating storytelling and quirky yet sublime mix of piano, pop, rock, and classical music were as conspicuous as her flaming-red ringlets among the dark-haired pop divas who ruled the charts. Since then, Amos' uncompromising studio albums and cathartic concerts have earned her recognition as one of the most influential artists of the past two decades while inspiring a legion of devoted fans. Rhino Records brings together Amos' classics, rarities, remixes, and previously unreleased music for A Piano: The Collection. Presented in deluxe packaging that resembles a piano's keyboard, this five-disc boxed set will be available on September 26.

Do You Wanna Get HARDCORE???

Emerging in the early 1980s, hardcore punk championed independent thought and a fuck-you attitude - all with a fierce "Do-It-Yourself" aesthetic. More than just loud, fast music driven by primal aggression, bands like Bad Brains and Black Flag helped launch an underground social movement that tapped into the disaffection of misfit kids who came of age in the Reagan era. Filmmaker Paul Rachman and writer Steven Blush capture the spirit of this subculture with their documentary, American Hardcore, and Rhino Records delivers the hard-hitting soundtrack.
American Hardcore - The History Of American Punk Rock (1980-1986) – Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available as a download at all digital retail outlets on September 26. The soundtrack will then be released at all physical retail outlets and at www.rhino.com on October 10.
